ladies and gentlemen please rise and welcome the Lakeview High School graduating class of 2024 play the dumb and other Round of Applause for the Lakeview Heights graduating class of 2024 before we get started with tonight ceremony I would ask that we bow our heads for a moment of silence to recognize LHS teacher mr. Paul Gorky who passed away this year Mr going he was an integral part of many of the lives of these students he is greatly missed thank you at this time I would like everyone to please take their cell phone out and turn the ringer off please refrain from behaviors that should only be deemed acceptable sporting venues Outburst of cheering shouting or whistling detract from the dignity this event these graduates deserve all that being said welcome to the 93 commencement ceremony of Lakeview High School an honor to be principal of Lakeview High School over the past 17 years as an administrator at Lakeview High School has been my privilege to be a part of the education of the students that are here before us today this class Gordon sat composite at Play Macomb County I've 28 high schools as well as a proficiency rating for evidence-based reading and writing portion of the SAT which place them second in the county a true Testament to their talent commitment and fortitude they amassed 1788 college credits through our Baker College Macomb Community College and Wayne State University program along with well over a million dollars in scholarship in award money if there are any Macomb County college officials in attendance 1623 of those credits were earned right here at Macomb Community College I'm very proud of the accomplishments of this group of leaders artists athletes and Scholars graduates congratulations your academic Drive is paid off all of our staff at Lakeview public schools at work very hard to prepare each and every one of our students for the next phase of their journey in life regardless of their chosen path Administration and staff at Lakeview public schools which them all great success in their lives and careers I would not like to recognize the any distinguished guests there with us today in the Lakeview Public Schools Board of Education president Daniel Dombrowski vice President Benjamin minors treasure Michael Bear trustees Genevieve Taylor Gordon Miskelly impede Asia Junior from the Lakeview Public Schools central office staff Carl Paulsen superintendent Tracy Van Buren Deputy superintendent 720 director of student services Eric Lind Director of Business Services Laurel Woods director of curriculum and MTS coordinator and Sean zaborowski director of Athletics and operations from Jefferson Middle School principal Amanda microwave assist principal Jason Townsend dean of students at jmsn Harmon Elementary Sean Coopers are elementary school principals Chris Han Ardmore Ella Greg Cedar Hermann Elementary just in case Princeton Elementary Cheryl niehaus Greenwood lemon tree Jennifer Donnelly dean of students at Princeton Elementary and Joseph panatella director of preschool education in Lansky from the lahs Administration probably two of the best assistant principals in Macomb County High School assistant principal Jennifer zaborowski and Michelle Anderson the class of 2220 2024 excuse me sponsors Kiva Adams and Theresa Walker and last but not least graduation guest speaker Lakeview High School Class of 2004 this is Erica Riggs now with all the outstanding Lakeview Public School teachers are with us tonight please rise and be recognized the students before us today have unquestionably had the support of their parents or Guardians getting to this point the importance of this support cannot be underestimated and should be recognized will the parents Guardians please rise and be right and finally we'll all the Lakeview High School alumni please rise and be recognized to announce today's graduation Awards is Lakeview Public Schools School Board president mr. Dan Dombrowski thank you mister Kapla how we doing this evening great night I'm a half of the Lakeview Public Schools Board of Education I like to walk them all to this evenings class of 2024 commencement lakeview's 93rd commencement Traditions are an important part of any organization and in schools the tradition of graduation is a particularly moving and uplifting event this is a time when we as school board members administrators teachers support staff parents families apply the academic athletic artistic music and social accomplishments of each of you this particular class is especially talented as we saw on May 22nd in the number of scholarships and awards that presented graduation also gives us the opportunity to celebrate the many fine accomplishments of the members of the class of 2024 well these honors are given to individuals all what is reflect on the quality of the entire class I know that you celebrate with me as we recognize the following eight individuals for their outstanding achievements noting that the first 7 awards are considered equal ranking in the eighth award the Robert H schaublin award is considered the top award first we have is the bell for award this is the oldest of our the recipient's name date back to 1962 on three of the four bell four plaques we can find the missing plaque predates the 1960s that's a long time ago apply to be resent commencement to the senior that was voted on the faculty based on service and scholarship the 2024 recipient of the bell for award is Milan Abarth next we have is the Richard black award first awarded in 1970 this plaque is presented to the Sea that was voted on the faculty based upon leadership athleticism and scholarship the 2024 recipient of the Richard black award is Autumn Rearick next we have the honor award initially awarded in 1962 to be presented at commencement to the senior that was voted on by The Faculty based upon leadership service and scholarship the 2024 recipient of the honor award is Emma huddlestone next we have is the co-ed server award this award was first presented in 1962 a blacktip Reef resented at commencement to the senior that was voted on by The Faculty based on character service and scholarship the 2024 stepping of the co-ed service award is sapphire alzoubaidi next we have is a Christine Niemann award this award originated in 1963 named in honor of a worm at the Latin teacher who was a member of One of St Clair Shores original families Nieman Street was named after this family a plaque to be presented at commencement to the senior that was voted on by The Faculty based on character and scholarship 2024 recipient of the Christine Niemann award is Kayla Gorman next we have the William strictly Civic School award Mr strictly was a member of the Lakeview Board of Education in 2000 his family made an endowment to the Alumni Association providing professional development money to a teacher and the strictly award to a senior who has demonstrated leadership and scholarship the 2024 recipient of the William Street Lisa School award is Hannah tassin next we have the Ian Smith toward Mr Union Smith is a former Lakeview Board of Education president a plaque to be presented at commencement to the senior that was voted on by The Faculty based on leadership service in scholarship the 2024 meaning of the Ian Smith award is Sarah lens do all right the last we have the mr. H schaublin award mr. Robert H schaublin served honorably as Lakeview High School principal from 90 51 to 1978 he also served as the district as superintendent of schools this plaque is awarded to the most outstanding senior as voted on by The Faculty criteria for this award leadership service and scholarship this honor has been awarded to our top senior since 1967 the 2024 recipient of the Robert H Shah 10 it is Eva Pinter and how about one last night's Round of Applause for our award winners tonight and the entire class of 2024 at this time I'd like to turn it back over to mr. Kapla thank you mr. Dombrowski congratulations to the award winners a tremendous accomplishment indeed Lakeview High School is proud to be a National Honor Society member school any just students must maintain a 3.5 GPA perform 48 Hours of community service 18 of which are in the form of tutoring hours of Honor service in another 12 large-scale service projects like cleanups this year and he just donated over $3,500 to the Capuchin soup kitchen similarly they donated hundreds of Cain kids to the Saint Clair Shores Goodfellow canned food drive yearly NHS volunteers at Forgotten Harvest Motor City Mitten Mission the nautical mile cleanup and Saint Clair Shores drain stents sing for the St Clair Shores Waterfront environmental committee they are all bound by the NHS standard of character leadership scholarship and service and tonight we have 62 nhsn where is graduating good all of the NHL's students please rise and be recognized thank you for your commitment and service to the Lakeview Community the selfless work that these students do is truly inspiring next the class of 2024 has 35 students before you today we're wearing a gold pendant they are being recognized for their accomplishments as graduating with highest honors these students earned a minimum 3.75 GPA havern proficient on all mme adores mints and I've taken at least two advanced placement courses with all of the students graduating with highest honors stand and be recognized for all your accomplishments the class of 2024 has 60 silver pendant recipients the silver pendant signify a student graduating with honors these students completed the required courses for graduation maintained a g a of 3.5 or better and I've learned at least two proficient endorsements on the Michigan Maritime exam all students graduating with honors please stand Lakeview High School's class of 2024 salute Taurean is Dedrick Shipman Dedrick is the son of Dennis and Vicky at Lakeview jedrick was a four-year member of the LA this band a three-year member of NHS and a student at mmstc in addition jedrick will be attending the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in the fall and will major in civil engineering ladies and gentlemen jedrick Shipman not too many people hello my fellow 2024 graduates it's a privilege to speak to you today as we celebrate the end of our high school careers I'm sure we each had to endure many trials to make it to this point in our lives the other day I talked to my mom about graduation and how this would hopefully be one of the least important Days of Our Lives by that all I was saying is that this is the beginning of what the rest of our lives will be now despite all this may sound ironic looking to the Past the best way to tell how the rest of our lives will go every trial we faced was a stepping stone towards all the success we will surely have in the future for some of us the trials we Face rack ademic being forced to Lana subject you don't understand can feel like an impossible task others the struggles have been social it can be terrifying to talk to people in large groups small groups or even alone and perhaps one of the worst struggles that almost everybody is going to face is a lack of motivation the feeling that you are capable of doing something but lack the drive to writing the speech I was reminded how difficult it has been for me to face many of the struggles in my life academically I've never done well in my English classes sitting there in learning how to write a proper sentence was never something I could understand the thing that turned into a big struggle with the fact that other people could sit down and write these Flawless papers where is my work was always weak no matter how awful my papers were however I always persevered and put my best effort into my work unfortunately for me I got a way with more than one struggle in life I've always had major struggles in my social life I hate having to talk to people that I don't know and I feel that making friends or me was always a struggle I always feel that people if I'm extremely annoying and would rather choose to not be in my company even scarier having to talk to a large group of people all at once while wearing about that exact thing giving the speech right now is probably one of the most terrifying things that I've ever done but I think I've done well for you this year I wish no I wish I could end the speech right now but unfortunately I feel that I should touch on a lack of motivation I know 4 years ago but my best example of this actually comes from during quarantine I'm a lazy person by Nature so I decided that the lockdown was a perfect time for me to do absolutely nothing I stopped doing school work and one of my biology because I didn't want to do anything that took more than an hour and French Ali that lack of effort caught up to me and I was failing my class was about a week left in the year at that point I was lucky enough to have the teacher who was willing to let me turn it off the late work so I can continue into the next year over that moment helped me realize that this lack of motivation was not something I could continue forward in my life with I've been determined since that year to never turn in assignment late simply because I was lazy and we can each take lessons of our past and use them the paper way to a better future as we go our separate ways Worlds Apart we will have to persevere through all the challenges we face in life continuing on our journey there will be many roadblocks in our path hopefully is each of these trip directions to Center way we have the grit and determination to conquer them it can be difficult for any of us to Envision exactly how our future is going to not go and there's no way to say exactly how someone's life is going to turn out but one thing that I am certain of is that moving forward every will be all right thanks to all that we have learned we can take what we know from our experience today and apply it to a greater tomorrow and to end off I'd like to leave you all with a quote from my principal at mmsdc misses Robin Stanton make it a great day or not the choice is yours you know he won't say it but we need to give him enough Round of Applause cuz he was really nervous good job that's all. The valedictorian of the class of 2024 is Andrew pillars Andrew is the son of Jim and Julie that Lake you Andrew was a member of the LHS Soccer Pro program for 4 years and a chess for 3 years mmstc student for 4 years Andrew will be attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in the fall he will major in aerospace engineering ladies and gentlemen Andrew killers congratulations class of 2020 for today is a great day to be a husky mine was Andrew pillars and I'm honored to be your valedictorian this year over the last four years we have all the complex so much and work so hard we should be proud that our class had to persevere through one of the most challenging for many years and succeeded we were lucky to have extremely supportive supportive teachers and staff the refuse to let us fail on behalf of the class of 24 24 I would like to thank everyone here at Lakeview High School and all of our family members and friends who got us here today I know I would not be in this position without my family teachers and classmates who supported me challenge me and kept me humble often times our greatest accomplishments come from the unexpected opportunities and overcoming hardships we face in life these opportunities often lead to some of the best moment for me it was unexpectedly being thrown into the middle of our soccer team huddle in the first game of our season in front of new faces from the freshmen and sophomores and even Juniors I threw together an impromptu pregame The Ledger a season-long tradition the way that we react to these unforeseen events determines exactly how much we will get out of life at Ardmore Elementary some of us were placed into mrs. talmadge's 4th and 5th grade split class this this is something we did not expect we could have refused to accept the challenges of working independently but we chose to become more autonomous individuals mrs. toe much encouraged us to develop our skills and do what was expected without constant supervision she told us early that by 2 attack of the adversities be facing Our Lives will become stronger smarter and better versions of ourselves based on that Elementary experience I learned that living in the passenger seat will not allow you to take control and actively seek challenges to develop yourself I sought out my own challenges by attending the Macomb Math Science and Technology Center throughout high school and by competing in the 2024 water Wars game and winning shot twice money it was a total mess CC but I was challenged with course regular intended to build skills that I can use for the rest of my life seeking out difficulty is the best way to thoroughly develop yourself into a better person we may not want the same things from Lifehouse to achieve our goals we must put ourselves in the driver's seat before I wrap up the speech my dad told me that everything came in my mom for their endless love and support all kidding aside without them I would not be standing here today whatever you fast by check or by choice see it as an opportunity to help you grow you cannot grow in life if you refuse to be nourished by what life offers you do we graduate today there is still a great number of lessons that lie ahead of us our road ahead is not paved which means you can choose where takes you congratulations and best of luck to our class of 2024 and go Huskies he'll never admit it but he was nervous too so another round of applause for Andrew it is now my pleasure to introduce the superintendent of view Public Schools Mr Carl Paulsen who wants to follow all those award-winning kids in these two speeches of these guys are so smart cuz I not that smart I've been doing this job 16 years I can't be that smart right I'm glad everybody's here it's a big full house and it's a testament to who these kids are and who was involved live to get him here thanks for attending this important event our board and staff and special guests are pleased you're here seniors you made it today we're proud of you parents and families you made it today we're pleased for you faculty you made it and today I'm relieved for you many from our class have been decorated with academic and honors many of our seniors also demonstrated success and athletic Mandark strip clubs and other extracurriculars however those accomplishments are a reflection of what you have done you lived a year until today and seniors when you walk across this stage and walk out of this building you'll be graduates and as you leave tonight you'll be challenged to do much more the challenges you face in life are what makes life interesting overcoming those challenges is what what make what will make your life meaningful you've overcome One Challenge to be here tonight and our celebration today gives it meaning I only have a few words of wisdom your future is just starting to be created I challenge you to make the most of it I'll say it again overcoming those challenges will make your life meaningful keep getting an education no matter how slow or how fast no matter what you choose to do even if it's at the job you have make yourself more valuable by learn new things education is the great equalizer you've heard it before you can be the next one who's a business owner teacher Army hero doctor pastor or lawyer that has their own businesses you need to be the engines of our economy in the future so do people like me can retire and have social security congratulations you made it I also have the pleasure of introducing our special guest speaker her journey began as a husky in 2000 one leaving is a 2004 high achievement graduate I need to stop and reflect a little bit put ourselves back in 2003 to 2004 when Erica mon fat now we are karigs an excellent student debate team a tennis player NHS officer class treasurer walked across the stage as a husky graduate you know 304 three common everyday mr. Tom Wozniak High School assistant principal would be found at 7:15 in the morning sitting outside the auditorium at the parking lot with a Boombox playing inspirational music greeting all the kids on the way into school Saddam Hussein the deposed dictator of Iraq was found in a hole Boomtown Coffee agree actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected governor of California at the 76 Academy Awards Lord of the Rings took all the awards in that same year Nemo you know the fish story became the highest grossing animated film of all time the FDA mandated food labels to include cholesterol the series friends ended but Survivor and a new show called alias became popular Alias with Jennifer Garner back on the map yeah that lady that does the Capital One commercials now and yep that one at the Grammy Award search for music the honor of best album Outkast hey hey hey hey you know it better today than they did back then and then of course I'm going to fight them all a Seven Nation Army couldn't hold me back you don't really know that song but you know the beat I'll bet don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't say even the kids know that we hear it on the Gym's and on the field 2004 who didn't own not to leave country out very popular singer Alan Jackson not his song though you all know the words pour me something tall and strong make it a hurricane before I go so insane I know the parents know it out there cuz it's 5 somewhere Michael Jordan I heard from the NBA and LeBron James was hired right out of high school Detroit Lions 6 and 10 Detroit Tigers most losses in American League history Red Wings sold out 41 straight home games best record in the NHL yeah that was the end of that female sports teams at the high school back then where the dominating athletic groups come to think of it I think we have a few conference in division champ sincere tonight and maybe one girls team to win a district yesterday some guy named Mark Zuckerberg created some inform me on Facebook while he was at Harvard University to compete with Myspace parents remember that one too Motorola release the Razr flip phone the F-series trucks best selling billionaire Martha Stewart went to jail for insider trading everybody's going to remember this one to Janet Jackson had a malfunction in her you outfit performing at the Super Bowl something didn't stay inside also complimented Sports music extracurriculars academic kept students at Lakeview High School busy including young Erika mom fat she did a lot of things in the community service area and you know back then Stewart photography was taking pictures to where you at over there they are they're still here 60 years later in mid 2000s gas cost 91 cents a gallon of milk was 275 so when gas is $0.90 a gallon and crazy in love was being stung on the radio by Beyonce this husky left the stage headed to Wayne State University got a Bachelor's degree got a law degree even started a non-profit while was in college called project 313 to help you with legal issues all that helped her get employment as a lawyer start her career in a few years later Erica Riggs is co-owner of disability Law Group working on Social Security and veteran's benefits for people who need it and Michigan accident attorneys she's a great example of a lifelong learner and someone who provides community service to the places she works and lives in her proudest job however is being Mom to Eli and Xander also here in the audience please join me in welcoming is Erica Riggs back to the microphone thank you mr. Paulsen for that introduction and firm give me feel quite old and for my children today good evening everyone and your loved one's faculty and guess what an incredible day to honor you and the journey that brought you here today I had more time to pay tribute to each and everyone of you but I only have the privilege of holding your attention for a few moments the short moments in time are however Monumental as they separate you from the next chapter in your life before I attempt to say a few words that I hope inspire you to move figurative mountains allow me to take you down memory lane not quite as far back as Mr Paulson took us but when you first stepped foot into Lake View the year was 2020 a year we will never forget your freshman 14 maybe 15 years old probably feeling a husky mix of nerves and excitement met with fear and wonder what little would you or any of us know that in just six short months the world would be turned upside down by a pandemic of unprecedented magnitude at a time where everything came to a halt you were called upon to adapt like never before with no time to process much less prepare for what would lie ahead your classrooms and hallways filled with friendly familiar face we're suddenly replaced by pixels on a screen virtual test and an unknown future that would look unlike anything we had ever seen before a world that simply did not exist before that time nothing could have prepared any of us for that yet you persevered you overcame some of the most challenging obstacles that I promise you will ever face and all with the help love and support of your teachers family and loved ones and we are here today in part to celebrate that Journey the chapter that lies ahead is now entirely up to you to write and navigate whatever path you choose will inevitably be met with adversity and Times of uncertainty but I encourage you to forge ahead with an unwavering belief in yourself never forgetting what you've already overcome as I stand before you today in the Mist planning my 20-year reunions for our 2004 graduating class go Huskies I can never put into words how quickly this time has gone when your principal called me inviting me to speak to you tonight it took me a moment to realize that I wasn't in trouble I couldn't be in trouble right if you would ask me 20 years ago if I thought that I would now own two law firms and be the one asked to stand here today what have unequivocally laughed and told you that wouldn't be possible yet I probably stand before you tonight having overcome adversity and the many challenges that I face reminding you just as I constantly I had to remind my two sons Xander and Eli that nothing is impossible you can overcome anything and accomplish your wildest dreams when you believe in yourself my advice to you is to hold on tight to those dreams and never let go of the mindset that you can overcome anything the obstacles they will always be their large and small so enjoy the journey Noah that you will learn in valuable life lessons from each and every setback that you face I implore you to rise in the face of adversity just like you've done over the last four years and never forget the remarkable Journey that brought you here today you owe it to yourself to keep pushing forward in the pursuit of your dreams no matter how unpredictable and seemingly impossible the obstacles are you are capable and worthy of greatness I am grateful for this opportunity to remind you of that I cannot wait for you to show your future self what you are capable of and all that you will accomplish over the next 20 years and Beyond class of 2024 thank you Erica leg.
